:: QEMSCAN for University of Cape Town
On the 3rd February 2010, the Centre for Minerals Research (CMR) at UCT took delivery of a QEMSCAN instrument - the first of its kind in the Western Cape.
The QEMSCAN was a donation from Dr Robert Schouwstra of Anglo Research and Dr Neville Plint of Anglo Platinum who are active supporters of the activities of the CMR at UCT. The instrument (year 2000) was recently replaced by a new one and donated to the CMR, headed by Professor Cyril O’Connor, in order to help the Centre’s research activities keep up with the needs of the mineral processing industry. Professor Chris Harris from the Department of Geological Sciences has been kind enough to allow the instrument to be housed in the Department of Geological Sciences in an effort to promote multi-disciplinary research between the Science and Engineering faculties; however it will be run by the CMR, specifically the Process Mineralogy group, under the management of Dr Megan Becker.
