:: Natural Resources Canada Provides Advice to The Chilean Institute for Mining and Metallurgy
On February 20th, as part of a cost recovery project to provide advice to the Chilean Institute for Mining and Metallurgy (CIMM), a Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) expert traveled to Santiago, Chile, to provide advice to the CIMM on the modernization of their mineralogical facility for fundamental and applied research to the mining and metallurgical industry in Chile. This is the first phase of a project that followed from the Memorandum of Understanding signed by CIMM and NRCan in June 2009.
A declaration of “Cooperation on Sustainable Development of Minerals and Metals” was signed by the Prime Minister and the President of Chile in June 2008. The Memorandum of Understanding addresses the mining innovation aspects with the objective of strengthening collaboration between NRCan and the CIMM to foster research and technology transfer in the mining, metallurgical, and environmental sectors. Future collaborations will be in the areas of mineralogy, phyto-toxicology, phyto-remediation and mine ventilation.
