:: FEI Acquires ASPEX Corporation

Last week, FEI announced the acquisition of ASPEX Corporation. This is a very exciting announcement for FEI, and for the FEI Natural Resources business unit in particular. We launched our WellSite product in late 2011, and the Aspex EXtreme™ was the SEM platform.

This is part of our strategy to move automated mineral and petrographic analysis outside the laboratory to where mining and oil & gas companies are exploring, extracting, processing and refining. We want to facilitate faster, easier analysis. This acquisition will enable the Natural Resources group to better integrate our QEMSCAN® and MLA software products onto the Aspex platforms. Aspex has been a great partner thus far in developing the mobile QEMSCAN WellSite product, and we look forward to working more closely with them now they are part of FEI.

"ASPEX Corporation has been a leading provider of industrial, integrated, turn-key SEM/EDX solutions for many years. Combining with FEI gives us resources, technology and market access to build on our success to date," commented Gregory Ott, president of ASPEX." In addition to helping to develop the company's Natural Resources opportunity, we believe FEI's technology strength and global reach will help us to expand further in the other markets we serve. We are very eager to further our partnership with the Natural Resources group and continue to bridge the gap between data and the knowledge that these solutions provide for our current and future customers."
