:: SGS Acquires Time Mining Group in South Africa; Laboratory in Liberia now Offers Low Level Gold Analysis

SGS is pleased to announce that our acquisition of Time Mining Group, based in Johannesburg, South Africa has been approved by the Competition Commission of South Africa. We welcome the staff from this group into the SGS Minerals Services network.

Trading as SGS Time Mining, this group brings extensive technical expertise and process engineering experience to the Minerals Services portfolio of services including:

  • Comprehensive analytical services for precious and base metals
  • Design and process engineering for due diligence, feasibility and trade-off studies
  • Process plant design, engineering, procurement, construction supervision, project management and commissioning for small and mid-tier projects
  • Plant upgrades, audits and optimization analysis

SGS is committed to continually providing clients with improved capabilities. The addition of these integrated services enables Minerals Services to further expand their service line offerings. These integrated services create a synergistic process that helps clients identify, develop and manage projects more efficiently to get to market faster. With several locations throughout Africa, SGS Time Mining facilities are ideally situated to support the exploration and mining industry across the African continent and around the world.

SGS can also announce that their new multi-purpose laboratory, equipped for iron ore and gold analysis and metallurgical testing, in Monrovia, Liberia now offers low level gold by aqua regia digest. This laboratory is strategically located to service the growing needs of the gold and iron ore minerals exploration industry in West Africa and has been operational for the past 14 months.

The Monrovia laboratory can perform the following geochemical procedures:

  • Fire assay with atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) and gravimetric finish for gold
  • Low level gold analysis by aqua regia digest with AAS finish
  • X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis for iron ores
  • Carbon and sulphur by infrared combustion (using LECO)
  • Thermogravimetry analysis (TGA) for iron ores
  • ASTM methods that cover screening and particle size analysis for iron ores

In addition to geochemical analysis, this facility is equipped to perform basic magnetic testing for iron ore characterization by Davis Tube testing and Satmagan analysis. The laboratory in Liberia is part of SGS' regional West African expansion program and has been designed to offer integrated service packages under one roof. Clients will benefit from this integrated approach to projects through better planning of testwork resources. This results in projects progressing quickly through each stage and achieving faster speed-to-market with the confidence that reports meet industry requirements.
