:: Thermo Electron Introduces X-ray Microanalysis

Thermo Electron Corporation announces the expansion of its x-ray microanalysis product line with the addition of instrumentation and software showcased at Microscopy and Microanalysis 2004 in Georgia, in August. The products introduce significant advancements for analytical methods and dramatically improve lab productivity.

Thermo's new UltraDryTM silicon drift detector, a new Liquid Nitrogen (LN)-free solution for high-throughput Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) applications combines ultra high-count rate, high-resolution performance associated with silicon drift technologies and high sensitivity for light element detection (down to carbon at high count rates). The UltraDry provides vibration-free operation for cost-effective no-LN operation.

Another innovation comprises the ability to simultaneously acquire data from multiple detectors, thereby cutting data collection times by half. Multiple detector inputs on one Noran(tm) System SIX analyser also enable users to run different x-ray detector types.

A new software option extends the capabilities of x-ray mapping and Thermo's exclusive Compass component extraction tool, allowing users to extract chemically unique phases and to create true phase distribution maps and spectra from COMPASS-processed data. This enhancement simplifies the process of identifying chemically unique phases in Spectral Imaging data.
