:: SGS Minerals Services opens new lab in Chita, Russia SGS is pleased to announce the opening of a new geochemical and metallurgical facility in Chita, Russia. The emergence of Russia as a prime mining location for world class domestic and international mining companies has led to the demand for a comprehensive facility such as this. It is the largest of its kind in Russia and the result of a year-long technology transfer program between SGS in Canada and Russia. The Chita geochemical laboratory is equipped with a high volume sample preparation facility, multi-pour fire assay, ICP-OES, AAS, carbon/sulfur and classical analytical methods for the analysis of Au, Pt, Pd, base metals, major oxides and refractories, trace and pathfinder elements. The Chita Lab is capable of processing over 1,000,000 fire assay determinations each year. The Chita metallurgical laboratory provides testing for flowsheet development and geometallurgy on base metals, iron ore, gold ore projects and has pressure oxidation and biological leaching capabilities for refractory gold ore. This location also functions as a gateway to other SGS metallurgical services and expertise. SGS can perform additional testing at other facilities as necessary. This new facility is SGS’ largest investment in Russia and it will be accredited to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard.
