:: The Mineralogical Society Postgraduate Student Bursary

A fund totalling 4,000 is allocated each year for the support of postgraduate students proposing to attend appropriate conferences to present their research findings, visit research labs, or to fund important field-work.

Applications are invited for a number of travel bursaries which are to be awarded by the Society. These are in addition to other postgraduate student travel bursaries awarded to young researchers. The purpose of these new awards is to support academic work by: allowing attendance at overseas conferences and meetings; encouraging international collaboration, involving research of high merit; or supporting fieldwork.

Applications, giving details of the proposed trip (including estimated total cost and any other support anticipated), should be received by the Executive Secretary by 19 January 2007*. They will be vetted on the basis of likely academic benefits by a sub-committee of Council. The award(s) will be made annually and the sum available will be 2000, accruing to the fund each year. Ordinarily, bursaries will be limited to a maximum of 500 or 50% of the cost of a visit (whichever is smaller). An individual will not normally receive more than one award every three years. Applications are welcomed from any qualified researcher. The Society reserves the right to make no awards. Members of Council will not be eligible for the award. Applications are welcome from Members and non-Members, however for non-Members part of their award will include a year's student membership of the Society which will entitle them to complimentary copies of one of the Society's journals.

*Note that applications at other times of the year are sometimes entertained, and awards may be made depending on the money available following earlier awards in the year.

Those interested can download a copy of the application form, as a .pdf file complete it and send it to the Executive Secretary, Dr. Adrian Lloyd-Lawrence, at the Mineralogical Society's address.
