Newcrest Mining Ltd has selected ABB to supply two drive systems as part of the Telfer gold mine redevelopment project. Under the terms of the US$13 million order, ABB will supply a gearless mill-drive system for each of the two 11 m-diameter semi-autogenous mills. The drives will have a rated power of 15 MW and a rated speed of 9.5 rev/min generating a torque of 15 MNm. The drives are scheduled for delivery in the December quarter of 2003 ready for plant start-up in 2004.
