Camborne-Redruth Mining District
Friday afternoon, free (delegates & guests)

The Camborne-Redruth mining district can be said to be the birthplace of modern mining. In the 19th century Cornwall was the world's largest producer of copper and tin. The last mine in the area closed in 1995.

We will travel by coach from Falmouth to Marriott's Shaft, to view the ruins of the early 20th Century mine and one of the great Cornish landscapes, with the ruins of 17 engine houses visible.

From Marriott's we proceed on a very photogenic walk via the old ore tramway to the ruins of the 19th century Wheal Bassett dressing floors. Here we can explore the remains of the engine houses which drove the stamp batteries, vanners and buddles, and wander through the arsenic calciner labrynths.

This is an easy walk but sturdy footwear will be needed.
