:: Mixing for ARD Treatment Acid-proof mixers made by Landia are successfully homogenising sludge at the Wheal Jane water treatment plant in Cornwall, which is to be covered in the May issue of Mining and Environmental Management. It is the largest controllable and instrumented plant of its type in Europe. Landia reports that the mixers were customised for this demanding application with a specially adapted sealing system and are meeting all efficiency requirements, yet are very low on energy consumption. Wheal Jane’s Landia mixers are installed in the pre-reaction chambers and sludge holding tanks, helping purify effluent, which as part of a three-pronged treatment scheme, ensures the removal of ferric hydroxide/oxyhydroxide, arsenic, zinc, copper, cadmium, iron and manganese.
