:: Canadian Process Technologies Inc. Delivers the World’s Largest Flotation Cells

CPT have recently transported the first of 14 flotation column cells to the Salobo Metais copper project and at almost 400 m3, are the world’s largest flotation cells.

Vale awarded CPT, a multi-million dollar contract for the supply fourteen (14) flotation columns complete with sparging systems and instrumentation for their Salobo copper project. Salobo Metais is reported to be CVRD’s largest copper project with the potential to produce 200,000 tonnes of copper and 5 tonnes of gold annually over a 30 year period.

These first eight large flotation columns, i.e. 6.0 meters in diameter and 14.0 meters in height, feature CPT’s hydro-dynamic external sparging system using “cavitation tube” spargers. Cavitation tube spargers were selected because of their excellent wear characteristics and ability to generate “pico” bubbles to enhance separation efficiencies resulting in improved metallurgy.

The remaining six columns are 4.3 meters in diameter and 14 meters in height and will use CPT’s proprietary SlamJet sparging system. SlamJet spargers are regarded as the industry standard because they are; low maintenance, able to be removed or retro-fitted while the column continues to operate, automatically “slam shut” on loss of supply sparger gas and because they use a single large bore orifice plugging or fouling is virtually eliminated.

CPT Inc., an affiliate of Eriez Magnetics, is a world leader in column flotation and sparger technology, with offices in Delta, BC Canada and Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and has previously supplied flotation columns, spargers and instruments for CVRD’s Sossego copper project.

Eriez Magnetics is a world authority in advanced technology for magnetic, vibratory and inspection system applications Through a worldwide network of facilities, Eriez Magnetics designs, develops, manufactures and markets magnetic separation, metal detection and materials feeding, screening, conveying and controlling equipment for process and metalworking industries.
