:: MACT Rule for US Copper Smelters  

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the US has issued the Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) rule concerning copper smelters that are, or are part of, a major source of hazardous air pollutants emissions, and that use batch copper converters. The MACT rule establishes emissions limits and work-practice standards for such smelters, and the EPA estimates that it will lead to a reduction in annual emissions of hazardous air pollutants of about 23%.
