322 accredited professionals coming from 14 countries met at the IV International Copper Hydrometallurgy Workshop 2007, that was held in the “Hotel del Mar” in Viña del Mar, Chile. Among the participating countries we can mention Germany, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, United States, Spain, Finland, Greece, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru and South Africa.
During these three days we had a great participation of hydro metallurgists, who were able to learn, exchange experiences and discuss innovations and recent developments related to the latest developments regarding the hydrometallurgical processing of copper. Executives and professionals from the hydrometallurgy sector from the most important mining companies, consulting and engineering companies, main suppliers of services and products and the valuable academic contribution from the Universities attended the HydroCopper Workshop.
On May 16th we launched the HydroCopper Workshop with an Inaugural Ceremony, where Dr. Jorge Menacho, Chairman of HydroCooper 2007 and Technical Manager of De Re Metallica Ing. Ltda, presented the topic “Overview to Innovations in Copper Extractive Metallurgy Up to Year 2050”. Following, Mr. Juan E. Morales, Corporate Development Vice President from CODELCO Chile, presented the topic “New Challenges Copper Hydrometallurgy: CODELCO Foresight”.
The Technical Program presented 50 papers in the oral and poster sessions specialized in the areas of Innovation in the Hydrometallurgy Processing of Copper Ores and Concentrates, Lixiviation of Minerals, Bio-Hydrometallurgy and new Process Development, Best Practices in Solvent Extraction and Electro-Winning Processes, Modelling, Optimization and Automatic Control of Hydro-Metallurgical Processes, Environmental Issues and New Projects and Expansions.
The University of Chile and the HydroCopper Organizing Committee would like to thank the collaboration of the members of the Advisory and Technical Committees, who supported and promoted this event and helped reviewing technical articles. We would also like to thank the Sponsor Companies and very specially the Authors for their participation and for sharing their knowledge and experience in the innovations and developments in the copper hydro metallurgic sector. Without a doubt all of them contributed to achieve the great success that was HydroCopper 2007.
The next HydroCopper Workshop will take place in May 2009 in Santiago, Chile. We certainly hope to continue increasing the number of local and international participants, so Chile will become internationally known in the hydro metallurgy of copper and related mining resources.
