:: CyPlus Oxitrol® Reliably Measures Cyanide in Effluents

In order to be able to measure and reliably control the cyanide content in effluents on a continuous basis, specialists of CyPlus GmbH, Hanau-Wolfgang, successfully installed an innovative and patented technology in the gold mining industry for the first time. As the first analytical apparatus of its kind worldwide, the CyPlus Oxitrol® was commissioned at the AngloGold Ashanti Mponeng Gold Plant ( South Africa ). The new type of system measures the cyanide content in cyanide-containing effluents by measuring the value for weak acid-dissociable cyanide (CNwad). The innovative technology can also be used for control and optimum dosage of chemicals, which leads to destroying the cyanides in the effluent. With its wide measuring range, the analytical apparatus can measure concentrations of different strengths. This is especially important for customers of CyPlus in the gold mining industry, in order to be able to comply with the low limits of the International Cyanide Management Code and the from the World Bank.

The management of AngloGold Ashanti, one of the largest gold mining houses world wide, commended the product and service performance during the commissioning.

The safe and responsible handling of cyanides over the whole product life is the main aim of CyPlus‘ activities. CyPlus Oxitrol® complements the CyPlus technology program of cyanide destruction in effluents. Since there is no reliable alternative to the Oxitrol® system to date, the experts from CyPlus expect a large demand for their new product. The worldwide introduction of this new technology will make for safer and more environmentally sound mining activities.
