:: Ausmelt Wins Final Stage of Brazilian Lead Project

Ausmelt Ltd has announced that it had signed a new contract with Votorantim Metais Zinco S.A. covering the final stage of a new lead smelter to be constructed in Juiz de Fora, Brazil.

This latest signing brings the value of new contracts and work orders signed this financial year to over A$31 million.

The new contract, worth A$6.6 million, brings the total value of the Brazilian project to $9.1 million. It covers detailed design, site services and equipment supply and includes the full scope of engineering design and equipment supply from Ausmelt.

The basic engineering contract and the technology licensing agreement for the first stage of this new lead smelter project were signed in August last year.

Votorantim Metais Zinco S.A. is part of the Votorantim Group, one of Latin America’s largest and strongest conglomerates, with operations in cement, pulp and paper, metals, agribusiness, chemicals, energy, finance and new ventures.

Detailed design engineering work will start immediately. The smelter will be designed to produce around 75,000 tonnes a year of lead bullion from a combination of lead concentrates and lead scrap, mainly from recycled batteries.

Mr Abbott said: “The working relationship between the Ausmelt and Votorantim project delivery teams is strong. Work on the basic engineering design was completed smoothly and on schedule. The project is now ready to move into the next phase of detailed engineering design and equipment supply."
