:: FLSmidth Minerals to Supply High-Density Thickeners for Tati Nickel

FLSmidth Minerals recently signed a contract with the Botswana Metal Refinery for the supply of Dorr-Oliver Eimco® high-density thickeners for Tati Nickel’s Activox® project in Botswana, Africa. This order is the largest order received to date by FLSmidth Minerals’ South African office and is the culmination of several onsite sedimentation testwork campaigns at Tati Nickel’s Activox® demonstration plant in Botswana.

Norilsk Nickel, owner of Tati Nickel, is building the world’s first industrial base metals refinery using its proprietary Activox® technology at Tati Nickel. The Activox® hydrometallurgical technology processes sulphide concentrates using ultra fine grinding and pressure leaching to ultimately produce saleable nickel and copper cathodes.

FLSmidth Minerals’ scope of supply is for a total of thirteen (13) Dorr-Oliver Eimco thickeners all with SAF2205 stainless steel internals, complete with tanks and support legs. Eight of the thickeners are of 35-meter diameter. The equipment deliveries will be staggered with final shipment taking place at the end of September 2008. Plant start-up is scheduled for late 2009.

Components for the project are to be supplied from South Africa and Germany with the engineering being done in Salt Lake City, U.S.A. and detail drawings being generated in Germany. All project management will be handled by FLSmidth Minerals’ South African office located in Johannesburg.

FLSmidth Minerals offers both hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical systems for the nickel ore processing industry. This Tati Nickel project comes on top of three other major nickel processing orders received in the past year totaling over US$200 million, making FLSmidth Minerals a global leader in supplying nickel ore processing technologies and equipment.
