:: Cyclones Contract for Platinum Mine
East Rand-based Linatex Africa has secured a contract for the supply of cyclones and separators to the Kroondal PSA project to the value of approximately R1-million.
The order was placed by Dowding Reynard & Associates on behalf of Aquarius Platinum.
Linatex Africa's product manager for cyclones, Stewart Douglas said the main difference between a separator and cyclones is that the former is fitted with an overflow pipe and a rubber 'fishtail valve'. The operation of the 'fishtail valve' is dependent on maintaining a negative pressure in the unit through the siphon effect in the overflow pipe.
Traditionally, the Linatex separator was mainly used for dewatering applications. However, it is now becoming more common in platinum-milling classification circuits to install separators instead of cyclones, particularly in UG2 regrind circuits.
