:: Eland Platinum Awards R600m-plus Concentrator Contract to DRA
South African engineering company DRA Mineral Projects had been awarded its biggest-ever R600-million-plus lump-sum turnkey contract for the supply of a 250 000 t/m concentrator to Eland Platinum's R1,1-billion Elandsfontein platinum mine.
DRA project development director Leon Uys said the DRA project team was already hard at work, and looking forward to adding another successful platinum concentrator to its list. Elandsfontein is a new platinum mine situated on the western limb of the Bushveld Igneous Complex, near Brits.
Site preparation was scheduled to start during the third quarter of 2006 and construction in the fourth quarter of 2006. Openpit mining was expected to begin in the second quarter of 2007, with production of the first concentrate from openpit ore - through an industry-standard 250 000-t/m UG2 concentrator - by the end of 2007. Concentrate offtake arrangements with Anglo Platinum were in place.
Openpit mining was expected to begin by the second quarter of 2007, and production from underground in 2008.
