:: Precious Metals Pioneering Processes
South Africa is far and away the world's largest primary producer of platinum and rhodium. It produces 75% of the world's platinum and over 80% of the world's rhodium, the global primary output of that being about six million and 0.75 million troy ounces respectively. It is also a large producer of palladium, ruthenium and indium, the other industrial platinum group metals.
In the March/April 2009 issue of CIM Magazine (pps. 32-35), Bill Davenport and Nathan Stubina present an overview of recent developments in South African platinum and rhodium production.
