:: Fungi in Asbestos Remediation

Queensland-based Monto Minerals Ltd has announced promising test results that could open up new markets for its feldspar.

Monto is an emerging producer of industrial minerals with substantial in-ground resources in Queensland. The company's stated aim is to supply international and Australian markets with feldspar for glass making, ilmenite for pigment in paint, paper and plastics, and apatite for fertiliser.

Announcing that its feldspar had passed the first evaluation for a new high value use in paint manufacture, Monto Executive Chairman Peter Slaughter said: "The result was potentially significant for Monto's industrial minerals project at Goondicum in central Queensland.Monto has been investigating other opportunities for feldspar, such as paint and industrial abrasive manufacture to expand from the planned base case of feldspar production for glass manufacture."

Mr Slaughter added: "We are very encouraged by these initial results in the paint industry and await the outcomes of the critical technical tests that must now be completed as part of the evaluation."

The feldspar was fine ground in a specialised mill in Germany and is being evaluated in Australia for chemical, physical and colour characteristics by a major international supplier of raw materials to the paint industry worldwide.
