:: CiDRA Wins Major Mining Contract in Chile

CiDRA Minerals Processing, Inc. announced today that they have been awarded by Codelco, through Bechtel Chile Ltda acting as an agent, a contract for the first phase of a planned expansion contract to supply SONARtrac® process monitoring systems for Codelco Andina PDA Phase I (Proyecto Desarrollo Andina). The SONARtrac systems will provide volumetric flow measurements on critical slurry lines within the concentrator plant, such as hydrocyclone feed lines, and work integrally within the Codelco Andina expansion project.

The Andina Division operates the mine located eighty kilometers northeast of Santiago, 3,700 to 4,200 meters above sea level. During 2007 Codelco began the construction of the first step in the Division’s Business and Development plan, denominated Andina Phase I Development Project. This consists of increasing the mine capacity from the current 72,000 tons of mineral per day (ktpd) to values above 92 ktpd.

CiDRA’s SONARtrac flow technology is a new class of industrial flowmeter, utilizing measurement principles that are distinct from all other flowmeter technologies operating in the mining industry.

SONARtrac non-intrusive flow monitoring systems make no contact with the slurry and can be removed and reinstalled when it is necessary to replace the pipe. As well, SONARtrac systems demonstrate a very stable output in the presence of a variety of ores, and demonstrate superior levels of performance. This passive, sonar-based technology enables measurements of single phase and multiphase fluids, as well as slurries, with the same level of accuracy and performance.
