:: ABB to supply new automation and process electrics to LKAB in Sweden ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won a contract for the supply of new automation and process electrical systems to LKAB’s ore concentration and pelletizing plant at Svappavaara in northern Sweden. The complete upgrading project will be divided into 6 phases over a period of three years. It includes, among other things, a new control system, new low-voltage switchgear, new frequency converters, as well as engineering, installation, commissioning and project management. The contract covers Phase 1, which will be completed in August 2003, and phases 2 - 6 as options. "The complete installation will be based on our concept that enhances productivity, availability and service friendliness," emphasizes Per Eckemark, head of ABB’s Swedish operation for Metals and Mining in Västerås. The Svappavaara ore processing plant is part of the LKAB Group, a leading supplier of processed iron ore products.
