:: P9: AMIRA’s Flagship Project Turns 50 Next Year

Commenced in 1962 by Emeritus Professor Alban Lynch, P9’s aim was to bring modern process control to the previously “black art” mineral processing industry. 50 years down the track, technology developments and vastly improved computational capability now allows today’s challenges of optimising complex operating plants and ore types to be engaged. The current phase of the P9 project, P9O, has established the ground-breaking application of three-dimensional ore characterisation to predictions of process performance. P9O comes to an end this year and the next phase of the project, P9P, is preparing to carry that work forward to deliver specific applications to selected sponsors sites. P9P will also carry forward P9’s long held tradition of on-site, in-plant investigations coupled with classical research capability to deliver on-going benefits to all sponsors and ultimately the industry at large.

A global Roadshow outlining the achievements of P9O and the intended program of P9P will be running from mid-October through to mid-December.
