:: MIPAC Engineers Crusher Control for Major Project in the Pilbara

 

Tenova TAKRAF has appointed MIPAC to design and configure the electrical, instrumentation and control for three semi-mobile crushers at a major project in Western Australia's Pilbara region. The contract is seeing MIPAC engineers do the electrical design and control system configuration for the two-stage crushers.

"MIPAC has been liaising with Tenova TAKRAF, a German company which manufactures heavy surface mining and material handling equipment, about this project since 2011," MIPAC business development engineer Alan Thorne says.

"MIPAC's experience in crusher control systems and other mining operations made us a natural choice to undertake the crusher control design and configuration late this year. The work will be completed by August 2014."

The crusher control system is PLC and SCADA based with MIPAC developing the functional specification for the control philosophy in conjunction with Tenova TAKRAF. "MIPAC's design will involve plans for one semi-mobile crusher that will be duplicated for the other two crushers, significantly reducing engineering costs," MIPAC project manager Ashish Mahajan says. "MIPAC will also be involved in HAZOP studies and machine safety studies conducted by Tenova TAKRAF as part of the development of the crusher operational philosophy."

The project will be executed on an accelerated schedule and MIPAC's control ystems expertise, together with TAKRAF's experience, will ensure adherence to scheduled milestones.
