:: Chinese Aluminium Orders for Outokumpu

Outokumpu Technology reports that its aluminium division, formed as a result of the acquisition of KHD Aluminium Technology, Lurgi Metallurgie and Aisco Systems, has secured its first major orders from China.

The first order has been awarded by Yichuan Power Corp. in Henan Province. KHD Aluminium Technology has secured a contract to supply a turntable vibro-compactor for moulding green anodes at the rate of 32-40 anodes per hour and a 'holoflite' type heating screw for preheating dry anode aggregate at a rate of 23-27 t/h. The equipment is scheduled for delivery within ten months. Yichuan has also ordered a pallet loading/unloading station, bath-removal machine, butt shot- blasting machine, butt-stripping press, thimble press and a casting station from Aisco Systems. The equipment, which will be used in the rodding shop, will produce two four-stub pre-baked anodes on a single rod with a spider-type yoke at an average rate of 30 anode assemblies per hour. The equipment will be supplied in stages over the next ten months.

The equipment will be used at Yichuan's new 200,000 t/y smelter, construction of which has recently started. The plant is scheduled to produce its first metal by the end of the year.

In a separate order, KHD will supply the Laizhou Liancheng aluminium smelter at Heqiao in Gansu Province with two sliding-table vibro-compacting machines with a vacuum system for moulding 45 anode blocks per hour at its pre-baked anode plant. Aisco will also supply a combination butt/thimble press and a cast-iron rodding station, each rated at 60 anodes per hour. The equipment will be used to produce 4-stub-inline anode blocks. The Lanzhou plant is undergoing a 130,000 t/y brownfield expansion.
