:: Computer Program to Predict AMD Costs

A new computer program designed to assist in predicting what it will cost to treat steams affected by acid mine drainage (AMD) has been unveiled by the US Office of Surface Mining (OSM). Called ‘AMDTreat,’ the program offers users a method to predict and model water treatment costs for mine drainage problems, including the determination of capital cost. It also provides many different treatment options for both passive and active systems, and includes over 500 variables that may be used to customise the costing routines for site-specific conditions. More information may be found at http://www.frtr.gov/decisionsupport/DST_Tools/AMDTreat.htm.
