:: Paste the answer to dam problems

Improvements in mining technologies and extraction techniques have made it possible to profitably extract metal from grades as low as grammes per tonne. This had led to an increase in the amount of waste material produced, and the number and size of tailings ponds required to treat the waste.

A better solution to replace these pond could be to form waste materials into paste, as described by Phil Newman in an article in the January 2003 issue of Materials World (pps. 24-26). Mr. Newman will also present work in this field at the Processing and Disposal of Minerals Industry Wastes conference in Falmouth in June.
