:: Minerals Processing Waste could Clean up Waste Water

The CSIRO says that the by-products from mineral processing could be used to remove contaminants from waste water.

This means that by-products from the mining industry could hold the key to improving water quality on farms and urban households.

Dr Grant Douglas says after two years of trials, they have hit some promising results.

Douglas claims that he and his colleagues have identified materials that have an inherent capacity to neutralise the acid that is often produced in waste streams from industry. By neutralising the acidity other contaminants are often taken out.
