:: Treatment After Cyanide Contamination  

Cyanide spills have been in the news recently, both the spillage of solid and liquid cyanide after transport accidents, as well as spillage from tailings pond impoundments. In an article in the May 2002 issue of Mining Magazine, Andreas Rubo and Stephen Gos, of Degussa AG, Germany, discuss the key questions arising from such spillages:

  • Are there possibilities to detoxify cyanide in flowing inland waters
  • Which detoxification reagents are most suitable
  • Is there a reduction of the toxic potential of cyanide by dilution
