:: Geopolymerisation: its relevance to the minerals industry  

Geoploymer technology could be considered as a novel method for encapsulating wastes, such as heavy metals, organic residues and mine tailings. The equipment required to apply this technology is comparatively simple, which means that it could be applied in harsh and remote environments such as mine sites. The technology is described in detail by Jannie van Deventer and Hua Xu of the University of Melbourne, in the Jan/Feb. issue of the AusIMM Bulletin (pps.20-27).
