:: New Cyanide Detox Process Launched

Degussa AG's wholly-owned subsidiary CyPlus and Inco Technical Services Ltd have launched a new cyanide-destruction process. The companies say that CombinOx process, which will be available exclusively through CyPlus, takes advantage of the synergies between Inco's SO2/Air process and Degussa's Caros peroxygen technologies. According to Dr Eric Devuyst, a vice president of Inco Technical Services, a key advantage of CombinOx is "its flexibility to accommodate changes in feed chemistry, by offering process balancing".

Depending on site-specific conditions, the new process can offer savings over traditional Inco plants, and operating savings over both Inco and Caros technologies. According to CyPlus, the process was tested and confirmed during last year. It says that various mining companies have expressed an interest in the process, and that laboratory test programmes have confirmed the ability of the process to deliver low residual levels of cyanide and heavy metals.
