Tailings and Mine Waste '10

270 delegates attended the recent Tailings and Mine Waste 10 conference held in Vail, Colorado from October 17-20, 2010

Registrants included 191 U.S. participants from 30 States; 53 participants were from Canada

Other countries represented included were Australia, Belgium, Chile, Denmark, Ghana, Greenland, Malaysia, Peru and Poland

Four short courses were given on Sunday, October 17th: Improved Water Recover through Implementation of Alternative Tailing Disposal (ATD) Methods; GARD Guide: Putting Concepts into Action; Landform Design for Mine Closure; and Perception and Reality in Tailings and Mine Waste Permitting.

Invited Speakers included: Norbert R. Morgenstern of the University of Alberta, John Sobkowicz of Thurber Engineering and Patricia McGrath of the U.S. EPA

Conference proceedings include over 40 papers covering various issues with mine tailings including: mill tailings, geotechnical considerations, geochemistry, containment systems, dry stack and paste, oil sands, and environmental issues. The proceedings are available through CRC Press/Balkema
