The 2001 SmartWales award, which has a development grant component, is presented annually by the National Assembly for Wales to encourage innovation amongst businesses based in the Principality. The award was presented to MMS Director, Julian Brown (right) by John Griffiths AM (left), the Deputy Economic Minister of the National Assembly for Wales.

The G-Cell design incorporates features for enhancing separation in difficult process applications. The dynamic, centrifugal action improves mobility of rising air bubbles, promoting disengagement, thereby reducing entrainment. It reduces retention times to typically 30 seconds, compared with pneumatic flotation time of 2-3 minutes, column flotation of 5-10 minutes and conventional cell banks of 10-30 minutes. The smaller cell volumes allow more stages, increased separation and, therefore, lower costs.
