:: Xstrata Technology Announces 250th Jameson Cell Sale

Xstrata Technology has announced the sale of four B6000/20 Jameson cells, which will take the number of installed Jameson Cells to over 250. Mineral Processing Manager with Xstrata Technology, Lindsay Clark, said the 250th cell was an important milestone for Jameson Cell Technology. Fittingly, this sale was to Xstrata Coal’s Newlands Mine, which was the first site to use Jameson cells to recover fine coal. Since then Jameson cells have been widely adopted in coal operations in Australia, USA, South Africa and China, and are also used in base metals and SX-EW organics recovery.

Lindsay Richardson, General Manager Newlands Collinsville Abbot Point (NCA) Operations said, "We have elected to again use Jameson Cells technology in our Coal Handling and Preparation Plant, which we are currently upgrading, because of their high intensity flotation, robust design and small footprint. Importantly, the Jameson Cells have an impressive track record of delivering simple, low-cost and reliable technology to Newlands".

Lindsay Clark said, "The Jameson Cell is now widely accepted in coal flotation due to its high shear intensity and fine bubble generation, yielding high recovery of fine coal. It is also popular since it is so simple to operate and has low capital and operating cost. The cell was initially developed for base metals, but was perfected by the coal applications. As a result we are now also seeing renewed enthusiasm for base metals applications." Newlands Coal expect the cells to be commissioned in early 2006.
