:: AMIRA Research Hits Record Levels

AMIRA International has completed a record year - both for the value of new research projects commenced and for the total value of members' contributions to ongoing research being conducted under AMIRA’s auspices. New projects for the year to June 30, 2008 totalled A$22.3 million, a very significant increase on the A$11.5 million of the previous year. Total value of members’ contributions to research projects under way reached A$77 million. Both these figures represent company contributions only and increase by around 25-30 per cent when leveraged by government grants and institutional contributions.

AMIRA International exists to help its members identify issues which they might jointly research - and then to broker and oversee research syndicates to share the cost and risk. To ensure that all members get equal opportunity to have their research priorities addressed, AMIRA is soliciting invitations to meet with the technology departments of member companies, says CEO Deming Whitman. “What we propose is that whenever companies arrange meetings of their technology group they program time for an AMIRA representative to make a brief presentation and, more importantly, learn about issues of importance to that particular company so that we can identify common interests among our members that we can focus attention on in our project development activities.

Some members are already doing this and their needs will no doubt be reflected in forthcoming project proposals. If you would like industry support for some of your research priorities, contact: deming.whitman@amira.com.au. We’ll make every effort to get someone along to talk with your team about what we can do for you. I don’t want to suggest that it is only the squeaky wheel that gets the grease, but we can only address your priorities if you tell us what they are."
