:: Sandvik Opens New Facilities in China and Brazil

Swedish headquartered steel and mining equipment company, Sandvik's Mining and Construction division has recently opened two new major facilities to further improve customer service.

In the presence of the Swedish ambassador, Chinese government representatives and about 500 customers Sandvik Mining and Construction has inaugurated its largest production facility to date. The new manufacturing facility is located in the Shanghai Jiading Industrial Zone and has the capacity to produce most of the products in the Sandvik Mining and Construction product range, from drill rigs to crushers and loaders.

Sandvik's ambition is to be a world leader in all areas where it operates with zero compromise on quality and safety. The 24,000 m2 large Jiading facility is a good example of this.

According to Lars Josefsson, President Sandvik Mining and Construction "it has been a great achievement to finish this facility and get it operational in just one year and it will increase our manufacturing flexibility a great deal when it comes to capital equipment" Lars says.

"It will mean improved understanding and consideration of customer needs of equipments and services in Asia, shortened delivery times, better availability of machines and service personnel. However, we will not only have the ability to serve our customers locally, but also customers all over the world" says Antonin Beurrier, President, region East Asia.

Meanwhile Sandvik has also inaugurated its new Vespasiano manufacturing facility close to Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The new facility will mainly be used to manufacture components for conveyor systems. In addition to this, the facility will also be used to assemble conical and jaw crushers, vibrating screens, frames and drums for conveyor belts.

"This is in line with Sandvik Mining and Construction's long term strategy of bringing value into our customers' processes. With 50% of our sales in the southern hemisphere it is a natural step to also set up manufacturing close to our customer base. It will increase the availability of our products and we will be able to serve our customer even better", says Lars Josefsson. "This shows the commitment to our customers, suppliers, distributors and personnel in Latin America" he went on to say.
