:: Outokumpu Technology Restructured

Outokumpu Technology Oy believes that it has consolidated is position as a leading partner in the metallurgical industry in the wake of its acquisition of a number of metallurgical-services companies including Lurgi Metallurgie.

Outokumpu Technology has restructured its regional sales companies in order to improve customer relations, and says that its long-term aim is to take complete responsibility for projects. To this end, Outokumpu Technology has been grouped into three units: mineral processing; metals processing; and services.

Pekka Heikkonen is the president of Outokumpu Technology, Neil Jagger has been appointed president of mineral processing, Peter Weber is president of metals processing and the company expects to appoint a president for the services group shortly. Part of the company's growth strategy is to raise net sales from the 242 million prior to the changes to 600 million by 2005, and to improve profitability significantly.

Mr Heikkonen said that the "mining and metallurgical business faces strong changes throughout the world. The industry centralises, companies merge and their needs change, the customers need long-term strategic partners. Therefore it is important that the technology supplier can be a strategic partner. After its transformation process, Outokumpu Technology can fully utilise its technological expertise to fulfil the customers' needs".
