“Innovations in Minerals Research, Operations and Education for Sustainable Development”

SME/MPD Symposium to honor Professor Somasundaran for his Life-time achievements and contributions to the Minerals Industry

Session Titles:

• Research, Characterization and Measurement Systems
• Innovative Processing Strategies for Sustainable Mineral Development (including Green Chemistry/Engineering)
• Energy Efficiency and Optimization
• Water Efficient Processing
• Handling Penalty Elements
• Education and Technology Transfer

Each session will have 6 papers. These sessions will be a balanced portfolio of papers covering Fundamental Research (including comminution, flotation, selective flocculation, physical separations, adsorption, environmental and health implications, etc.), Applied Research and Plant Practice in mineral resource recovery and processing (including Industrial Minerals, Sulfides and Precious Metals and Energy Minerals). All papers must be aligned with the theme of the symposium which focuses on sustainability (defined as energy, water and material efficient processing, product and process design that integrates cost, performance and environmental footprint).

In addition to these 6 sessions we also plan to have a Panel Discussion on “Sustainable Mineral Development: Roadmap, Metrics and Best Practices”

Deadlines

April 15, 2008: Preliminary Abstract Submission
August 1, 2008: Final Abstract submission
November 1, 2008: Preprint submission
