:: Largest Dense Medium Cyclones Produced by Multotec

The largest diameter dense media cyclones ever produced by Multotec Process Equipment have been shipped to Australia for installation at Newlands Coal Mine.

These 1450 mm diameter cyclones will handle a capacity of 780 tph under standard operating conditions. The cyclones have been lined with 25 mm pre-engineered high alumina ceramic tiles to prolong wear life in the arduous operating conditions typically found on collieries. The pre-engineered tiles provide a substantial increase in wear life and the better surface finish inside the cyclone improves efficiency during operation. The tiles are manufactured by Multotec Wear Linings.

Gerrit Lok, senior process engineer at Multotec Process Equipment, says that traditionally the Australian market prefers larger diameter cyclones, and this is mainly due to lower capital and operating costs.

The order was placed on Multotec Process Equipment by New South Wales based Australian Coal Technology Pty Ltd . This engineering concern is responsible for the design and construction of the new process plant at Newlands Coal Mine.

The two large 1450 mm dense medium cyclones formed part of an order for a total of four dense medium cyclones and 21 ceramic lined classification cyclones. Apart from the two larger dense medium units, four 1300 mm, six 600 mm and four 420 mm classification cyclones will be installed at Newlands Coal.
