Two scientists at the metallurgy division of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre at Trombay, India, examine a widely used process in the extraction of metal, first developed for the production and processing of uranium and other nuclear metals, and now being applied to other metals as well. The first volume covers leaching with acids, alkalies, and ferric and cupric ions. This second of the two-volume set considers leaching with several other reagents such as cyanide, chlorine, hypochlorite, hypochlorous acid, dichromate, and electrochemical leaching. The processing of the purified solution, with the object of recovering particular substances, is described as performed by crystallization, ionic precipitation, and gaseous, electrochemical, and electrolytic reduction.
