:: Escondida Buys Outokumpu Plant

Outokumpu Technology is building a EUR 40 million VSFTM solvent extraction plant for Minera Escondida. Said to be largest plant of its kind in the world, the new plant will be located at the existing Escondida mine and is planned to be operational in 2006 to handle copper sulphide leach ores.

The total contract involves engineering, proprietary equipment and supplies, construction, erection, training, commissioning and start-up services. The process facility will utilise Outokumpu's advanced Vertical Smooth Flow technology. The feed solution throughput capacity is 9,000 m3/hour through two solvent extraction lines, allowing an estimated capacity of 180,000 tpy cathode copper.
