Cliffs Natural Resources is an international mining and natural resources company, headquartered in Cleveland. We are the largest producer of iron ore pellets in North America, a major supplier of direct-shipping lump and fines iron ore out of Australia and a significant producer of metallurgical coal.

Our Koolyanobbing Project located in the heart of the Goldfields provides lump and fine products to the international market, exported from our Port Operations in Esperance. Other projects include a Joint Venture in the Kimberleys, the Cockatoo Island Project. Working in partnership with others, we are committed to improving our economic, social and environmental performance over time.

The Laboratory Technician is primarily responsible for the accurate processing of samples. Reporting to the Senior Laboratory Technician, the Laboratory Technician will contribute to the continuous improvement of the Operations – Quality Control Team.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities include:

  • Pick up crusher samples from the OHP plant
  • Complete sizing analysis on crusher samples
  • Sorting, Splitting, Crushing, Drying and Milling of crusher, ship and blast hole samples
  • Complete and report on moisture analysis on crusher samples
  • Complete routine area inspections and vehicle checks
  • Complete routine maintenance on equipment
  • Weighing of ores and flux to 4 decimal places
  • Beading of samples for XRF analysis using a fusion machine
  • LOI analysis of samples using a furnace and TGA
  • Reporting of results using relevant MS Office applications

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Basic computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft software
  • Commitment and demonstration of safe work practices at all times
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Work performed must be to a high standard of professionalism
  • Self motivated worker
  • Ability to be pro-active and have initiative
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn
  • Sound organisational skills
