With combined operations comprising three shipping terminals, eleven mines and the largest heavy freight railway in Australia, the Pilbara operations produce more than 150 million tonnes of iron ore annually and are growing towards an annual production rate of 220 million tonnes.

Yandicoogina is a fly in fly out operation located approximately 184km northwest of Newman, in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia. Yandi's total iron ore output has reached 50 million tonne per annum and is set to increase even further. Facilities at the mine's campsite include a gymnasium, indoor cricket pitch, swimming pool, tennis facilities, golf putting green squash courts, wet mess, dry mess and laundry facilities.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide technical support and leadership for operations and maintenance staff by improving plant availability and performance, plus maximising plant throughput whilst minimising costs.

You will receive support and context from the Superintendent of Fixed Plant Production as you seek to:

  • Identify, investigate and implement improvement opportunities in conjunction with operations and maintenance sections
  • Evaluate, develop and progress various metallurgical projects
  • Ensure optimal metallurgical performance of the various process streams and equipment, including primary, secondary and tertiary crushing, dry and wet scalping and product screening, thickening and waste disposal
  • Consult with Geologists and Mining Engineers on short and medium term mine plans in order to optimise plant performance
  • Daily, weekly and monthly metallurgical balances and reporting
  • Participate in ongoing training and development within the team

To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess:

  • Degree qualified in metallurgical/minerals processing or chemical engineering
  • Solid experience within minerals processing operations
  • Commitment to Health & Safety and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Good time management and organisational skills and able to work independently
