BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) is the world’s largest seaborne coking coal supplier. BMA operates nine mine sites and a coal loading port in Central Queensland.

Saraji Mine was named Australian Mine of the Year and Coal Mine of the Year at the 2009 Mining Prospect Awards for innovation, initiative, hard work and superior performance. Saraji Mine is an open cut operation which uses draglines and truck and shovel fleets to expose, haul and produce over 8 mtpa of hard coking coal. Our employees live in Dysart – a modern town of 4,500, 240km from Mackay and the Whitsunday Coast.

Due to an internal BMA talent management process, a vacancy exists for a CHPP Manager to fill an integral role within the Saraji Management team.

Reporting to the site General Manager/SSE this position will be responsible for providing leadership to the Preparation Plant team in order to ensure that coal production targets are met safely and within customer specifications.

We are seeking a person who has a proven track record of delivering results in safety, continuous improvement strategies, maintenance, and working with personnel to create a high performance culture that delivers superior business outcomes

This role will require you to:

  • Proactively communicate, monitor, advise and report on the compliance towards HSEC responsibilities.
  • Actively encourage the involvement and motivation of personnel in the ONE BMA Culture.
  • Manage the team in order to ensure coal production targets are met to specification.
  • Ensure the compliance of all personnel in respect to the Company policies and procedures.
  • Mentor direct reports
  • Be responsible and accountable for adhering to the process of costing, budgeting and forecasting in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Work as an effective member of the mine’s leadership team particularly business planning aspects.

Applicants should have fixed plant experience working in either coal or mineral processing plants and able to demonstrate the full range of interpersonal skills necessary to deal and work as part of a diverse workforce. And possess the following:

  • At least 5 years experience in a Prep Plant and with their most recent role that of Manager or Superintendent.
  • A demonstratable commitment to safety
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Project Management skills.
  • QMS1, QMS2, QMS3 qualifications
  • A degree in Engineering or related discipline would be highly advantageous as would post graduate qualifications in Management.
