Lynas Corporation - Mt Weld

Lynas Corporation owns the world’s richest Rare Earths deposit at Mount Weld, located south of Laverton in Western Australia. The company has a vision to be a global leader in Rare Earths for a sustainable future and a strategy of creating a reliable, fully integrated source of supply from mine through to customers, and to become the benchmark for security of supply and environmental standards in the global Rare Earths industry.

Rare Earths are a group of 15 metallic elements which have unique properties that make them indispensable for many technological applications. Rare Earths deliver the materials to sustain the needs of today’s society and play a critical role in the electronics, automotive, environmental protection and petrochemical sectors. New materials and novel applications incorporating Rare Earths enable companies to produce more efficient and higher performing products such as iPods, MP3 players, flat screen displays, disk drives, LCD and plasma TVs as well as innovations that meet the need for sustainability, such as hybrid vehicles.

To date, the first mining campaign has been completed and the ore is stockpiled and awaiting concentration. The construction of the concentration plant at Mount Weld has commenced and what is required now is a team to move them towards their targeted production schedule.

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be providing technical support and advice to the Mt Weld Operations Team to optimise the flotation performance to meet budget recovery and grade targets.

You will be responsible for (but not limited to):

  • Providing technical support and advice to Mt Weld operation employees
  • Manage the Metallurgist Department in the absence of the Metallurgical Manager
  • Ensure the development and implementation of the Metallurgical Plant accounting system
  • Identify opportunities to improve plant performance
  • Ensures the ongoing Maintenance and calibration of the OSA
  • Provide key input to the development of the plant budget
  • Accurate and timely delivery of the end of the month reconciliation report
  • Develop the annual test work program and ensure it is appropriately resourced for implementation
  • Contribute to the emergency response capability of the site
  • Lead and manage direct reports and effectively apply all relevant Lynas people systems

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree Metallurgy/Mineral processing or Chemical Engineering
  • 8-10 years experience in operations
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in flotation
  • 2-3 years experience in a similar role as a Senior Metallurgist/Managing metallurgist
  • Experience in commissioning plants/flotation circuits
  • Experience managing metallurgist test work programs
  • WA Drivers Licence

Desirable

  • Oxide Flotation experience
  • Senior First Aid Certificate
