Vale Inco Limited - Manitoba Operations in Thompson, Manitoba is a fully integrated mining, milling, smelting and refining facility producing more than 100 million pounds of plating grade nickel annually. We also produce copper, cobalt and other metals for use by industry.

The Senior Engineer Metallurgy will provide leadership, technical expertise and support to the Smelter team in evaluating, developing and controlling metallurgical processes, unit operations and operating practices in the plant.

Accountabilities:

• Ensure efficient and timely completion of projects/assignments by planning, organizing and controlling resources.
• Support plant by evaluating process metallurgy and operating practices. Recommend solutions to process problems and develop more efficient metallurgical processes.
• Provide guidance to process improvement teams, and act as Project Sponsor for Engineering and Capital Projects (up to 1 millions dollars).
• Communicate with operating personnel and plant Management and act as technical resource.
• Conduct metallurgical studies and advance new technology.

Education:

The ideal candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering.

Experience:

A minimum of 5 years of related experience in metallurgical plants

Knowledge and Skills:

Registered P.Eng. designation or to be eligible for professional registration in the Province of Manitoba is preferred.
