Lab Managers  [Feb.23, 2010]

Location: Africa

CA Global Africa recruitment is looking for candidates interested in Lab Manager positions in Africa. The successful candidates will be required to optimize utilization of the laboratory and capacity to ensure quality according to requirements and compliance with integrity programs of the company.

Main responsibilities:

  • Manage laboratory resources (people, IT, software & hardware and training) in an efficient and sustainable manner
  • Responsible for the day to day operations of the laboratory. Ongoing responsibility for the quality of results, timeliness of reporting results, maintenance of equipment, invoicing clients, staff training, control of stock and any other areas that impact on the operational performance
  • Continuously optimize laboratory processes and ensure required quality standards
  • Ensure health & safety procedures are adopted and communicated to all laboratory employees
  • Maintain client contact and respond promptly to client requests. Provide timely, cost effective quotations for customers.
  • Modify services on demand and develop new lab products and services
  • Maintain good relationships with staff, contractors, unions, local landholders and other groups who have an impact on laboratory operations
  • In consultation formulate the budget for the laboratory for the coming year. Minimize the environmental impact of the operation including ensuring that all hazardous wastes are correctly disposed of in accordance with local regulations and international best practice
  • Operate to the highest standards of ethics in accordance with the company Statement of Integrity
  • Lead, coach and develop the operating team in the laboratory.

Profile:

  • Bachelors Degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy or related discipline
  • Mastery in technical knowledge of analytical processes
  • Proven ability to work with technical, sales and management staff
  • Proven ability to work in remote locations (including mine sites)
  • Extensive knowledge of international standards and specifications used by the industry
  • Good knowledge of foreign languages can be an advantage (French, Portuguese...)
