Think Place

As part of BHP Billiton’s Stainless Steel Material’s Group, Nickel West is the world’s third largest producer of nickel-in-concentrate, providing 16% of global production. Nickel West comprises five outstanding Western Australian-based assets, in terms of operating capability, scale, environmental standards, diversity, technology and development projects.

Mt Keith (MKO) is a world class nickel operation located approximately 900 km north-east of Perth, and contributes around one third of Nickel West's nickel concentrate, utilising the latest technology in mining and mineral processing. Boasting a modern purpose-built facility, the Mount Keith Village has plenty on offer, together with an attractive fly in fly out roster from Perth.

Think Opportunity

Making use of your skills and experience, this role offers you the chance to be part of a small, cohesive team of metallurgists at MKO. You’ll be actively involved in a number of the major business improvement initiatives, both current and planned. Through these activities you’ll develop a working relationship with some of the best technical development professionals within Nickel West and the broader BHP Billiton.

With challenge and diversity constantly on the horizon, you’ll expand your skills by working closely with both technical and production teams within MKO and our Technical Delivery Group. You’ll also have the chance to gain additional leadership experience, filling in for the Senior Project Metallurgist as required.

Think Purpose

Your primary objective is to undertake and coordinate projects to improve the performance of the MKO concentrator. You’ll also provide high level support to the Project and Production Metallurgists, and to the Technical Superintendent to assist them in achieving plant optimisation

Think Requirements

You must have a solid grounding in the principles of grinding, classification and flotation, while experience in SAG and ball mill operation will be highly regarded. You’ll have a tertiary qualification in Mineral Processing or related discipline, supported by strong written and verbal communication skills and solid report writing skills. Supervisory or leadership skills will be advantageous. You must also have proven ability to execute mineral processing projects.
