Applications are invited from interested and suitably qualified persons for appointment to the position of:

Head : Physical Separation

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

The following Key Performance areas are mandatory to the post:

  • As Group Head, assume the line management responsibilities for the Group. Provide technical input and guidance in the execution of projects at a specialist level. Ensure that projects are executed on-time and within budget. Oversee all interactions with the Group’s clients, consultants and service providers;
  • Actively participate in marketing the Group’s services. Ensure that client needs are understood correctly and that appropriate test programmes are developed;
  • Ensure that commercial and science vote income targets are achieved and that the Physical Separation Group operates at a profit. Develop annual business plans for the Physical Separation Group;
  • Achieve Group revenue target of approximately R25M;
  • Oversee the commissioning of pilot-pants and small commercial plants;
  • Manage and do technical work in major projects, in which interactions with clients and technical expertise are required at a nationally competitive level;
  • Provide clients with professional consulting services;
  • Develop and implement a strategy to grow the Group’s business in the local, regional and international markets;
  • Develop and execute appropriate research programs (funded by the science vote) aimed at strengthening and expanding the technical abilities of the Physical Separation group;
  • Ensure that QES procedures are strictly adhered to and that project work is executed with maximum overall technical efficiency;
  • Develop a program for the training of junior staff. Motivate and guide Group members;
  • Assist and supervise staff where necessary;
  • Produce professional reports, papers and presentations at local and international conferences;
  • Participate in the development of long-term business strategies for the Group. Identify opportunities for technology development and commercialisation;
  • Lead and or participate in research and development projects aimed at the strategic positioning of the Group for future growth; and,
  • Keep up to date at a national professional level with technology and business developments that are relevant to the division’s interests.

JOB KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS REQUIRED

Applicants must have:

  • A B.Sc. (Eng.) (Chemical or Metallurgical) - a MSc or PhD will be advantageous;
  • At least 5-years experience in Physical Separation;
  • Experience in plant auditing, technology evaluation, flowsheet development, modelling and simulation of Physical Separation circuits. Client interaction will be highly desirable;
  • Strong management and business development skills are required; and,
  • A working knowledge of legislation covering the workplace.

Salary : R520 850 CTC negotiable.

The post will be filled in accordance with Mintek’s Employment Equity Plan.
