New Gold Inc is a globally diversified, $1.7 billion market cap intermediate gold company with producing properties in Brazil, Mexico and Australia. The company also has mines under development and has an impressive exploration program underway. New Gold Inc wholly owns and operates the Peak Gold Mine in Cobar, NSW. With four (4) main underground ore sources, and an aggressive exploration program, Peak Gold plans to mill 750,000 tonnes of ore in 2008 that will produce between 95,000 and 100,000 ounces of gold and approximately 9.0 – 11.0 million pounds of copper.

Reporting to the Mill Manager, this role is a critical part of the Mill Management Team and makes a major contribution to the long-term viability of the Peak Gold Mines operation.

The key responsibilities are to provide metallurgical support for the mill process operations and managing the laboratory operations.

Degree qualified in Metallurgy or similar you will have previous experience in a senior Metallurgy role in a metals extraction plant. To succeed in this role you will be highly self-motivated and an independent thinker who enjoys succeeding through others. You will have good communication skills and the desire to meet the daily challenges of a plant.

Experience with gold extraction and copper flotation, grinding, including SAG milling, gravity recovery circuits and metallurgical accounting is essential.

You will hold or have the ability to obtain a ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence.

This opportunity is located in Cobar, a well serviced regional town with the necessary infrastructure to support the community and provide a quality residential lifestyle. The role is based at the Peak Gold Mine within the Metallurgy Department on a 5 days on / 2 days off day shift roster.
